How to print 4×6 shipping labels from any marketplace

Whether the label came from Amazon, Shopify, Etsy, USPS or Flipkart, the goal is the same — a crisp 4×6 page a thermal printer can eat without complaining. Here is the exact workflow.

Why 4×6 is the industry default

Almost every dedicated shipping-label printer — Rollo, Zebra ZP450/GK420d, DYMO 4XL, MUNBYN, iDPRT — is built around a 4×6 inch (approximately 102×152 mm) media roll. Every major carrier accepts it. It is the smallest label size that comfortably fits a full-size barcode and the address block without shrinking.

The three problems with the PDFs marketplaces give you

  1. They are usually A4 or US Letter, with the actual label sitting in a corner.
  2. Some sellers put a tax invoice on the same page, so you cannot just print at 4×6.
  3. The label is often rotated 90° from what a thermal printer expects.

The universal 4-step workflow

1. Download the raw label PDF

Never take a screenshot. Always export the vector PDF from your marketplace — the barcode will only scan reliably from a vector source.

2. Crop to the label region

Drop the file into PDF Crop Buddy. It auto-detects the label region for every major marketplace. If your source is Flipkart, Meesho, Amazon India or an invoice-attached format, turn on Split mode so each A4 page becomes two 4×6 pages (label first, invoice second).

3. Rotate for thermal

Preview the export. If the barcode is horizontal, rotate 90° so it prints along the roll direction — this improves scan reliability by 20-30% in our internal testing.

4. Print at 100% scale

In your PDF viewer, set Page size to 4×6 (or "Actual size" if your printer driver is already set to 4×6). Disable "Fit to page" — it silently shrinks the barcode.

Common mistakes

  • Printing an A4 label at "Fit to 4×6". The barcode becomes too small to scan.
  • Not calibrating the printer. A single ribbon-out or label-jam calibration run fixes 90% of alignment issues.
  • Using pdf-to-jpg tools. They rasterize the barcode and destroy scan quality.

Marketplace-specific tips

  • Amazon — SPD labels are already 4×6; only FBA carton labels need cropping.
  • Shopify — set label size to 4×6 in Settings → Shipping before generating, or crop after.
  • Flipkart — always crop; the default download is 4-up A4.
  • Meesho — always crop; label + manifest are stacked on the same page.

The 10-second daily workflow

Once you have a printer set up correctly, the daily rhythm becomes: download → drop into cropper → export → hit print. For 20-50 orders a day this takes under a minute total.
